In 1989, a new portable console was released in Japan. Game Boy redefined the gaming world. His legacy, with consoles like Switch, is still very much with us today.

While it took a few months for the Game Boy to hit the US in Europe, it was over a year before they saw the brave gray of joy.

The launch line of the games was also very well done, with classics like Super Mario Land and Tetris (in the USA and Europe) being a great attraction for young players at the time.

In fact, the Game Boy has opened up a whole new world of game possibilities for a young audience of gamers. So much so that it is not surprising that series like Pok & eacute; mon debuted on the handheld.

Not just series like Pok & eacute; mon& nbsp; games, but also long-lasting franchises such as Super Robot Wars games. With the most recent being Super Robot Wars T available on the PlayStation 4 and the Switch.

The Game Boy also forced game developers to really detail and focus on making the gameplay good, since graphically the Game Boy could not do as much as the TV consoles of the time.

The result of this game focus has produced one of the best game libraries on any console of all time.

It also goes without saying that I have been collecting classic Game Boy games for a while now (shown above) and they are still a lot of fun to play.

So if you're wondering how and why consoles like the Switch are hugely popular all over the world, the reason behind it lies in the foundations that the Game Boy has launched twenty years ago.
