UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones want to stay busy in 2019. Jones said he plans to defend his title against Anthony Smith at UFC 235 this weekend and then defend the belt two more or three times in 2019. He did not say he wanted to fight at heavyweight this year.
However, that does not mean that Jones will not be questioned about a possible shift to the heavyweight division, especially since long-time rival Daniel Cormier is the current champion in that weight category. There is also the fact that there have been rumors of former champion Brock Lesnar returning to the octagon at some point.
So, of that pair, who would Jones want to fight?
"I would take Brock Lesnar," Jones said at UFC 235 midday MMAjunkie). "I would take Brock Lesnar because he attracts a totally different audience and people have already seen me making DC" cry twice. I have nothing against this guy.Let him have his domain heavy.
Another reason Jones said he would rather face Lesnar is that Cormier is a more dangerous heavyweight fight than he was light heavyweight, and that means that Jones would want more money to tackle Cormier at heavyweight.
"The reason I think it would cost more for me is because Daniel Cormier is considered by most people, by some people I should say, as the greatest of all time," Jones said. "And to fight with the greatest of all times, when he weighs 30 pounds more than I, it's dangerous, no matter who you are. I want to make it worth it because, after all, my health is at stake."
As for the money that Jones would want for any of these fights, the light heavyweight champion is not shaking hands.
"I do not want to show my hand," Jones said. "I'm sure the UFC would be like," he said, "what?" That would have to make a lot of sense. The UFC just bought for $ 4.2 billion, so the money is there ".
