JOHANNESBURG (AP) – Authorities in Cape Town say they controlled a fire that hit the iconic Lion's Head Hill, injuring a man.

South Africa's News 24 website quoted authorities in Cape Town as saying firefighters were putting out the fire on Monday after it burned overnight.

Helicopters threw water bombs on Monday to launch the remnants of fire.

The fire also affected Signal Hill and forced the closing of roads. No damage to property was reported. A man sleeping on the hill is being treated for burns.

The Cape Town area remains on high alert because of hot, dry conditions and windy weather.
