More than a year ago, while the Disney and Fox business was still being negotiated, Bob Iger said at the time that Disney would be open to making Marvel movies as R-rated Dead Pool. Here is a little update of what he said at the time:
"This [Deadpool] clearly has been and will be of the Marvel brand. But we think there might be an opportunity for a Marvel-R brand for something like Deadpool. As long as we tell the public what's to come, we think we can administer that fine. "
If you're wondering what Disney's current stance is on Censorship-rated Marvel movies, now that the offer is about to be closed, you'll be happy to know it has not changed. Recently, in a call with investors, Iger once again confirmed that the studio will continue to make R-rated Dead Pool movies and other Marvel movies directed at adults. According to Variety, he said:
"We will continue in this business. There is certainly popularity with these types of movies. "
He went on to explain that "the company will make an effort to ensure that it is carefully marked [R-rated films]… So we are not at all confusing the consumer. "
So, do not worry, there will be Marvel movies rated R in the future. One of those first films can be Black Widow, as there were already rumors.
