Confirmed rabies case in Gaston County


GASTON COUNTY, N.C. – On Saturday, April 14, the Gaston County Police and Pet Care Division received a call, in which one person reported that his dog killed a raccoon.

The call came from a citizen in the 800 block area of ​​Unity Church Road.

Animal Care and Enforcement Specialists investigated, confiscated the raccoon and processed the raccoon for rabies testing.

The raccoon was sent to the NC Public Health Laboratory in Raleigh and tested positive for rabies.

Animal care and application specialists began investigating the area where the animal was located, advising residents and verifying vaccination against rabies from pets.

Authorities emphasized the importance of rabies vaccines valid for all pets, both for the health and safety of animals and for the health and safety of the community.
