Authorities identified, Mr. Xo lived next to his brother, often in conflict. At the end of 2018, Xo intended to take revenge on the Lien family and contacted a person in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, bought 2 kg of explosives, 1.5 m of slow fire and two detonators, then brought back to Thanh Hoa to make a pipe mine.
On the morning of February 9 (5th day of the Lunar New Year), Xo brought mines from the city of Thanh Hoa to his hometown, climbed the second floor of his brother's house by a ladder, placed him near the corner of the corridor and lit a wire.

The explosion prompted Mr. Lien and his two grandchildren to be hospitalized in an emergency. The house and many furnishings were badly damaged. Many glass doors and roofs of the families of the neighbors were broken. The total damage is estimated at VND 500 million.
