O self medication when there is a respiratory tract infection can lead to the development of pneumonia, one of the diseases that can create drug resistance, said Dr. Ramón de Dios Pérez.
"It is a contagious pathology and self-medication at home increases the likelihood that not only a patient dies in the absence of antibiotics that remit their process by creating resistance to them, but that other family members, who also self-medicated, the same thing happens to them, "he said.

The chief of the emergency service at the Mexican Institute of Social Security's specialized hospital, Imss in Jalisco, said that the abuse of antibiotics leads to clinical pictures of pneumonias that are increasingly difficult to treat and therefore there is a higher mortality rate.
"People should be aware of this because seven out of ten respiratory diseases are of viral and non-bacterial origin, so they only require medications like paracetamol-acetaminophen and chlorphenamine, not antibiotics, "he said.
He explained that in addition to wanting to resolve respiratory diseases at home, Another factor that can compromise the health and even the life of the patients is not to go to the doctor and believe that the symptoms will pass.
