The mayor of Orlando's La Cañada de Urdaneta municipality in Orlando Urdaneta ordered the takeover of contractor Baker Hughes' headquarters for the company's "breach" of the cancellation of "municipal taxes".
"We took @bakerhughes_SSA because of the repeated violation of the city tax cancellation, we have taken a temporary administrative closure," Urdaneta said in her Twitter account @LcdoUrdaneta.
The takeover of the company took place at dawn on Thursday, November 7, at 5:30 am. Urdaneta was accompanied by constituent Jhonny Bracho, members of the town hall and police, among others.
“We are applying a temporary closure measure to the company because it is lacking tax. We have exhausted the means and mechanisms of dialogue, but that has been impossible. We had to enforce sugarcane rights by applying this measure and temporary closure, ”said the mayor in a video circulating on social networks.
He said he still hopes to reach a “solution to this problem. We are not demanding what is not ours, we are demanding what belongs to the people (…). That is my goal, to defend the interests of the sugarcane people, the welfare of their citizens, improvements in services. We call on the owners of the company (Baker Hughes) to introduce themselves, show their faces and respond to people. "
Urdaneta said that "many companies have contributed their taxes to the municipality, such as Halliburton (…) there are few that are in fiscal rebellion and I will fight and apply the necessary measures to pay the municipality the taxes that belong to them. (final) is based on the law and the Constitution. ”
Baker Hughes Company is an international industrial services company and one of the largest oilfield service companies in the world.
