force restart iPhone 12, enter recovery mode, DFU mode and more [Video]

Outside of the iPhone SE, all of the iPhones that Apple sells today feature an “end to end” screen without a physical home button. If you are upgrading from a device with a Home button, this update course can help you learn how to force your iPhone 12 to reboot, enter recovery mode, DFU mode, etc. Watch our practical video tutorial for more details.

Getting Started

This tutorial will work for Worldwide new releases of the iPhone 12, including the iPhone 12 Pro and the upcoming iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max. From now on, when using the term iPhone 12, I mean all iPhone 12 models.

You will need to familiarize yourself with the buttons on the iPhone to perform any of the following functions. There are two volume buttons on the left side of the iPhone, along with a side button on the opposite side.

Since the hardware of the modern iPhone does not have the Home button, the side button, together with the volume buttons, play a critical role when it comes to forcing a restart, entering recovery mode, DFU mode, etc.
