The moon will look larger than average because it will be three days after the perigee, the point in its orbit when it is closest to Earth, according to Space.com.
Although the name suggests the moon will appear a certain color, this is not true. Instead, the moon is called pink after the color of the wild flox, one of the first flowers of spring. The Native Americans named the moons so they could follow the harvest schedule.
The moon may appear red or orange because of dust, fog, smoke or ashes in the atmosphere.
The next full moon will be the Flower Moon on May 18.
