Meghan and Harry arrived at the palace in a separate car. The Duchess of Sussex, who is expecting her first child in the spring, also wore a classic updo and diamond earrings she had worn earlier in Fiji during the couple's tour last month.

Both the real brothers seemed sharp in matching with the black tuxedos.

Before Charles's remarkable birthday, the palace released two new family portraits. In the new photos, seven-month-old Louis, who was born on April 23, is held by his mother, Kate Middleton, when George, a five-year-old (in Amaia), sits on the knee of his grandfather Charles. Meanwhile, Princess Charlotte, 3, and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, seem to focus on something behind the camera of photographer Chris Jackson.

Also featured in the photos, taken in September outside Clarence House: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. Meghan (in Givenchy, her wedding dress designer) was pregnant at the time, but the news had not been released.
Asked how he felt on his 70th birthday, Charles told reporters on Wednesday, "I'm not sure. It's like indigestion." Many happy returns "are not exactly the same as you get older."
