Forget the tide pods. Now we have Scottish pods

"No ice. No shaker. No glass. We're redefining how whiskey can be enjoyed … #noglassrequired," tweeted Glenlivet as part of its "Capsule Collection" release, scheduled for London Cocktail Week.

People have enjoyed Scotch whiskey for hundreds of years, usually in a glass and often on rocks, of course.

Glenlivet, one of the world's leading producers, now offers this turnaround:

"Innovative for a spirits brand, the edible capsules are 23 ml in size, are fully biodegradable and provide the perfect taste burst experience," says Scottish brand promotional material. "Enjoying them is simple, the capsules are popped in the mouth for an instant burst of flavor and the capsule is simply swallowed."

Judging by the Twitter posts, some whiskey lovers are not so excited.

"Ummm, whiskey cocktails are for drinking and sipping, not exploding in your mouth all at once," Susie Mac wrote.

"Gelatin photos. You reinvented the gelatin photos," tweeted Jodran Weissmann.

"Just put it in an intravenous bag. We'll come to the inevitable conclusion," added writer Roxane Gay.

Limited production pods are being served as entertainment during the celebration of cocktail innovations in London until October 13th.

This limited availability should prevent most people from confusing them with laundry detergent.
