As you may already know, this remaster of Final Fantasy 12 Zodiac Age is based on the Japanese version "International Zodiac Job System", which differs from the original release in some key areas.
Most notable, of course, is the Download system. The characters now have a permanent class choice known as Jobs in the Zodiac system, and within these Jobs a License plate is available, which contains several updates, including new Gambits for your character.
In addition to all this, we will also be leading you through best jobs for each character – although it is much less important than you think.
It's a lot to digest in the beginning so let's explain everything you need to know about it here on this page. For more help with Final Fantasy 12, be sure to take a look at our Final Fantasy 12 The Zodiac Age guide and step-by-step guide.
Zodiac Jobs and the License Board explained – which class should you choose in Final Fantasy 12?
Once the Zodiac Jobs and License system is unlocked in the game, every time a new person joins your group, you can assign a Job.
Final Fantasy 12 gives you the opportunity to take a look at what's in each frame before you decide, but note that once you've assigned one, you'll be stuck permanently – unless you're playing Switch and Xbox One – Early stages of the game you may want to delay until you have settled on a style of play.
When a new member joins their group, they come with armor and weapons that suggest the "standard" role they want – Basch has a sword, Fran has a bow, etc. – but you are free to ignore this and give something else do.
Having said that, it is advisable not to stray too much from your intended work – while you can make Basch a White Mage, it has more HP base, so it is best suited for a melee character.
That said, when it comes time to add a second license (after defeating Belias to get your first Esper), it can be argued that people are assigned to the "wrong" class as a way to leave the party and prevent you from rely heavily on a character: melee-based works have more HP bonuses available on your boards that you can use to strengthen your Wizards, and adding some magical skills to a melee fighter means they will still be of some use in situations where combat is not an option. More on this just below.
Theoretically, there is more five trillion combinations available to you when creating your group of characters and their various works on the Zodiac, then obviously we will not list all of them, but here is a brief overview of each type:
|Job||Type of attack||Armor||Weapons||Best uses||Suggested characters|
|Archer||In the distance||Light||Arcos||Fighting aerial enemies.||Fran|
|Black magician||Magic||Mystic||Staffs||Enemies with elemental weaknesses.||Ashe|
|Bushi||Melee||Mystic||Katanas||Nearby rooms, fast attacks against slow enemies or weak physical defenses.||Vaan|
|Close-quarters, alternative to a tank with high evasion.||Vaan|
|White Wizard||Magic||Mystic||Stems||Healing and defensive magic, at least one is essential to your party.||Ashe|
|Ulano||Melee||Heavy||Spears||Tanking and heavy damage.||Vaan|
|Train driver||In the distance |
|Light||Weapons for Combat |
Measures for the melee
|Flexibility, with melee or range choice. Note that weapon damage is not scalable with statistics, but the Measures inflicts plane damage independent of the enemy's defense statistics.||Fran|
|Red Battle||Melee |
|Mystic||Maces||You can only cast low-level spells, but it is useful as extra support for your White Magician.||Ashe|
|Good as a tank or DPS, and good choice for beginners due to survivability.||Vaan|
|Monk||Melee||Light||Poles||High health and avoidance means it can serve as a tank. You can fight unarmed.||Vaan|
|Time Battlemage||In the distance||Heavy||Beasts||Both spells support and damage treatment are useful for inflicting status effects and damage over time.||Ashe|
|Excellent tanking and works as DPS against high defensive enemies.||Vaan|
The best zodiac works for each character in Final Fantasy 12
It is a common issue, but there are few aspects that really affects a character's performance when it comes to choosing Jobs for each of them, so it's not something to worry about too much.
Instead, it's more just a case of having one or two minor factors in mind and then building them however you want. The community at GameFAQs did a decent job (pun intended) to suggest the best options, but again there are no hard and fast rules. With all this in mind, here's what to consider when choosing vacancies for your character:
- Vaan – A general but high HP general takes it to tankier Jobs like Bushi, Shikari, Uhlan, Knight and Foebreaker.
- Ashe – High Magical Power (MP), suiting the magician Jobs.
- Penelo – As Ashe, high MP means slope for mage suitability.
- Basch – Combined high speed points for melee based work – think of Bushi, Uhlan or Monk.
- Balthier – As with Basch above, the speed of combination suggests a melee job.
- Fran – Slightly weaker statistics suggest vacancies like Archer or Machinist.

How to Build the Best Party in Final Fantasy 12 The Zodiac Age
During the early stages of the game, you will have only three characters to choose from, but later you will get a larger list of 6, from which you can gather a team of three to explore and it is important to spread. the different classes so that you can cover all the bases.
There is no "right" way to do it, and choosing a great party is both an art and a science, but here are some tips:
- A White Magician is essential – Other classes like Archer and Red Battlemage can conjure up some low-level white spells that will take you through the first few parts of the game, but as you progress you will not last long without some higher-level healing spells, which White Magi are built for.
- Think of assigning the "wrong" class as secondary – For classes that can only use light or mystical armor, for example, you might consider giving them a second class that can be used heavy armor as it is available, and on the other hand, for those who can only use heavy or light armor, you may want to give them a secondary class that allows for mystical armor. This allows you to prioritize protection against just about any kind of damage depending on the situation, particularly in boss fights: some of them will attack you with physical damage, so heavy armor is a bonus, and some will focus on magical attacks for which Mystic armor is a benefit.
- Distance damage is only for specific circumstances – Remote attacks are of course useful against flying enemies, but they do much less damage than melee or magical attacks against most land-based enemies, so do not rely on it as your primary source of DPS.
- Wait before adding a Black Wizard – In the early stages, a Black Wizard may not be very useful, but once secondary classes are available later, you should add one to your party.
- Do not put all the eggs in the same basket – at various points in the game, you will not be able to use magic, or physical attacks will be out of the question, so it is important to have a little bit of everything available.
Also note that although you probably end up with three "favorites" in your party, it's important to give everyone a showing; Characters gain LP to unlock new abilities, even if you are not using them, but EXP is only won by active party members, so anyone who does not get accustomed will end up being a little deficient in HP betting and will probably be obliterated immediately. if you think you need to call later in the game.

The best licenses to choose from on the license plate
There are many things to choose from in each forum and it can be a little overwhelming to know where it is best to invest your points, but instead of identifying details, we suggest a general rule which is to put a little at all and keep the board balanced.
The other important point to note about your choice of licenses is that, as weapons, armor, spells, tactics, and top-level accessories are unlocked as you go along in history, there is no benefit in getting the Swords 5 license yet are selling only level 3 weapons.
In this situation, you should put these points into something more immediately useful and avoid focusing too much on a single type of update.
Gambits and Gambit Licenses explained
Gambits are a list of instructions that you can assign to members of your group that they will follow in battle; the list is prioritized from top to bottom, so, every time it's the turn, they start at the top until they find a matching condition and then perform any specified action. In the early stages of the game, you will have limited slots and options available to you, but more conditions can be purchased from merchants around the world and additional slots can be unlocked on license plates.
Most of the time, you are free to designate what you want, but for some battles you may need to add or remove certain things for safety – for example, if you have a Black Mage set to deal fire damage to the nearest visible enemy, and you're fighting a fire-based enemy, you'll want to disable it – otherwise it will be an obstacle rather than a help.
We recommend ever have someone in your group who has "Self: Libra" as their first entry to give you an edge in battles and highlight traps while you wander, and at least one member of the group needs to have "Ally: Cure / Cure" as their high priority . Where you set the cutoff limit for this Gambit depends on how many HP and MP are at stake; releasing it prematurely can also waste MP, but leaving it too late may mean that by the time it was released, the intended recipient is already dead.
