Scientists have repeatedly said that vaccines have never been safer – or more effective. So why do some people still refuse to trust them?

Disease outbreaks are happening in countries where they have not been seen for decades. And the number of people who choose not to vaccinate their children appears to be increasing, is one of the top 10 global health risks this year, according to WHO.

BBC reporter Population Stephanie Hegarty has been to Italy where vaccines have become a major problem in recent years to explore a debate that is littered with misinformation and false news.
