Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is not the only Switch game getting a major update this week. Nintendo is also releasing a new patch for Mario Tennis Aces. The update is scheduled to arrive on January 31 and will make a series of balance adjustments, launch another Co-Op Challenge and add a new playable character: Boom Boom.
As of February 1, players will be able to unlock the classic Super Mario Bros. 3 in the middle of your opponent competing in the Online Tournament mode of the game; all others, however, will unlock it automatically after March 1st. You can take a look at the Boom Boom in action in the trailer above.
In addition to the Boom Boom, Nintendo is bringing back the Boo Hunt Co-Op Challenge until March 2, giving players another chance to unlock alternate special costumes for Boo. This particular challenge uses the Swing mode and has players joining online to hit the ball at maximum Boos within the time limit.
In addition, Nintendo is adding a Hosted Match mode to play online and LAN. AI is also being improved, and several characters are getting balance adjustments. You can read about all changes to the complete patch notes.
A series of new characters have been added to Mario Tennis Aces since the game's launch, including Shy Guy, Diddy Kong, Petey Piranha and most recently Luma, who arrived in early January. The next free character in the game will be Pauline, and she'll be available in March.
