One teenager who went to the hospital with severe constipation had over 100 balls of chewing gum stuck in her stomach.
Scans revealed that the girl could not digest the tapioca balls added to the popular drink.
The 14-year-old boy drank much of the tea five days before being taken to the hospital, reports The Mirror.
His stomach, intestines and rectum were saturated with tapioca balls and his abdomen was swollen.
She was prescribed a laxative to help her pass the balls.
Doctors said that tapioca starch can be hard to digest and tea shops can put additives in the balls to improve their texture.
