Fortnite players are pushing a floating alien rune across the island

Fortnite seems to be gearing up for their next in-game event, and may not surprise longtime fans to know that this one is again focused on Loot Lake. As we saw in the latest updates, the Loot Lake area of the map was transformed from its archipelago design, which occurred after the trippy butterfly event in November, which turned the mid-game map into an excavation site. . In the middle is a kind of giant metal hatch, perhaps a door to the mysterious purple cube that fell on Loot Lake last fall.

We do not know much about what Epic Games is planning here, but there is now a floating alien-looking platform outside Fatal Fields that contains a brilliant rune, matching the runes that appeared around the hatch in the northern bed of the lake. The device, or whatever it is, is moving slowly towards the lake every time it takes 100 million collective damages, synchronized in all Fortnite servers similar to the mysterious dig sites that first appeared last month.

There may be several other runes as they appear in the next few days and take their place in the hatch through the player's collective effort. Some have speculated that the metal hatch or door may not be a portal, but rather the top of a spacecraft buried in the ground, which would link to previous narrative topics about the alien Visiting character.

We do not have much information on the timeline here. Epic has in the past constructed these collective narrative events – such as rocket launching that kicked off this unprecedented style of storytelling in the game – usually around the culmination of its current season, but we have seen the developer mingle this in recent months by launching events in the middle and near the end of a season. It looks like we might see some serious map changes occur next week, which would be the midpoint of Season 8, if rate players are progressing, the rune is as fast as it looks.
