2019 Renault Clio – Prices, specifications, and launching date

Although the new Clio is a bit shorter and lower than the current car, it is also more spacious. The trunk's official capacity measures 391 liters – more than any rival for small cars – so you should have no trouble fitting into some suitcases or a large shopping bundle. An adjustable height boot floor is also available.

For now, Renault is showing only the interior of the new Clio, but this is no problem, because there is much to talk about. Let's start with the 9.3in central infotainment touchscreen, which is an evolution of what is the Megane family hatchback. Described as the largest screen of any Renault model, it is slightly tilted towards the driver and includes all the multimedia and navigation functions you would expect to find. Infotainment in the current Clio is lacking in terms of features and graphics, so this should be a substantial improvement.

The Clio will also be offered with digital instruments for the first time – something already offered in rival Seat Ibiza, and in the more expensive Volkswagen Polo and Audi A1 – that sees the traditional analog displays of the car replaced by a configurable screen measuring 7 inches or 10 inches depending on specification. In Form 10, the screen can also place the nav-sat map directly in front of you.

Other details include small digital displays for climate controls built into the knobs that control them, a shorter gear mechanism and a new multifunction steering wheel. There is also a wireless charging keyboard for compatible smartphones and a central armrest.

Finding a comfortable driving position has never been a problem in the old Clio, but Renault has equipped new seats that offer a longer base and a more ergonomic shape. They are also slimmer by increasing knee space for rear seat passengers. There are more high quality materials used throughout the interior, which is something we criticize in the current Clio.

Shoppers will be able to customize the interior of their car by choosing from eight design schemes that change the color of the center console, door panels, steering wheel and arms. Ambient lighting with eight different colors is also available.

In addition to showing the interior of the new Clio, Renault has confirmed that the car will be sold as a hybrid. The initial hybrid variant is likely to be a moderate hybrid, which will see a 1.5-liter diesel engine powered by a small electric motor that can provide small bursts of electric power. It is not expected to be available at launch.

A hybrid plug-in Clio variant, probably under the name of E-tech, is expected to arrive next year. The other engines of the Clio will be 1.0 liters and 1.3 liters of gasoline. There will also be a 1.5-liter 115-liter diesel engine for long-distance drivers.

An all-electric version of the Clio is not currently planned, because bosses do not want to cannibalize sales of Zoe's electric car.

Over time, there will also be a new Clio RS hatchback, due for release in 2020. It is likely to contain a turbocharged 1.8-liter gasoline engine.

Speaking of the Clio RS, Renault is introducing a new level of finish, dubbed the RS Line, which gives the Clio a sporty look inside and out, and comes with sports seats, new aluminum pedals and red stitching on the seats and steering wheel .

Renault also confirmed that the car will be offered with advanced driver assistance systems, which means the new Clio must be able to control its own acceleration, braking and steering on the freeway, and be able to park.

Alloy wheels up to 17in are available, and buyers can choose from 10 colors of paint.
