The one-year delayed Lightyear startup in the Netherlands has introduced a running prototype of the Lightyear One electric car. The liftback is "coated" with solar batteries and therefore has a record power reserve of 725 km, according to the WLTP standard. Each wheel is driven by a separate motor, but the power is unknown, as is the battery capacity in the background. It is said only that the acceleration to one hundred takes 10 seconds. Up to 20,000 "solar" kilometers (read, free) per year are promised. The serial version will appear in 2021 with an indiscreet price of 119,000 euros (8.5 million rubles).

Lightyear was founded in 2016 by former students of the Technical University of Eindhoven who worked on the Solar Team Eindhoven. She triumphed three times in the prototype competition at the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge. Having opened their own business, the guys surprisingly quickly raised 20 million euros in the form of investments, grants and prepayments. Part of the funding came from the European Union: as part of the Horizon 2020 innovation program. Now Lightyear has more than 100 employees, including former Tesla and Ferrari engineers.
During the night, the battery is charged from a household outlet for 350 kilometers. An express terminal with a capacity of more than 60 kW for one hour will provide a reserve of 570 km. Hundreds of liftbacks from the first batch of 500 pieces are already booked. "As new technologies are expensive, we need to start with an exclusive offering. The following models will be much cheaper, "promises director Hyovslot. Remember that Lightyear One is not alone. Very soon, the German solar hatch Sono Sion will enter series.
