Kravchuk accused the Communist Party of Ukraine, which he himself directed, in the Chernobyl accident

The decision to build the future Chernobyl nuclear power plant was taken on the Kiev regional committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine. About this in the program "The Right to Power," said the former president of Ukraine, Leonid Kravchuk, informs the TSN.

Ukraine has not been the first and main territory where the nuclear power plant should be built, and the fact that it should be built in Ukraine has insisted and made a decision. party and the only person who protested against the construction (atomic Note Red) power plants on Kiev in the Dnieper, was the president of the Academy of Sciences, Boris Evgenievich Paton. Everyone else agreed, "said Kravchuk.

During 1965-1966, the Kiev branch of the Teploelektroproekt design institute surveyed 16 sites in the Kiev, Vinnitsa and Zhytomyr regions for the construction of a future nuclear power plant. The Kiev region was chosen – the site for the construction of the future Chernobyl nuclear power plant, near the village of Kopachi, was approved by the Gosplan Council of the Ukrainian SSR on January 18, 1967.

A few weeks later, on February 2, the recommendations of the State Planning Committee of the Ukrainian SSR on the location of nuclear power plants near Kopachi were also approved by a Resolution of the Central Committee of the CPSU and the Council of Ministers of the USSR. Construction of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant began in 1970, and its first unit was launched in 1977.

In early 1986, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was the most powerful in the European part of the USSR.

After the explosion, the power units began to stop one by one, which was generally not necessary. They could continue to generate electricity safely because the incident occurred as a result of an experiment rather than a regular job.

Finally, the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was halted only in 2000 after 23 years of operation. Now the construction of the nuclear power plant is off. In Soviet times, five nuclear power plants were put into operation in Ukraine – those of Chernobyl, Zaporizhzhya, Southern Ukraine, Rivne and Khmelnitsky. Four nuclear power plants are not completed – Kharkiv, Odessa, Crimea and Chigirinsky. The question of the construction of the transcarpathic nuclear power plant was also considered.

As reported by Strana, scientists discovered a wintering bear at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and warned tourists about the meeting with him.

Recall that the HBO series "Chernobyl" was called "radioactive cranberry, which is believed."
