American startup Rivian Automotive has unveiled its first electric vehicle, the Rivian R1T, in the form of a popular pickup in the United States at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The model was able to surprise not only the design but also the technical features.
The most notable design element of the Rivian R1T is unusual LED lighting, which includes not only headlights and taillights, but also an additional horizontal element on the front panel. Not only does it make the pickup image more expressive and act as an additional element of road lighting, but it can also be used as an indicator of modes of operation (for example, it glows green when charging batteries).
According to the format, the Rivian R1T is a five-seater four-door pickup with an open trunk for carrying bulky loads. If you wish, you can install a compact tourist booth, which is not surprising, as the manufacturer positions the electric vehicle as the ideal solution for eco-tourism.
The four-wheel drive electric car is based on a flat skateboard platform, in which the middle part is occupied by a huge battery and separate compact electric motors for each of the wheels are used to drive. Each of these engines provides power up to 147 kW, the total power can be 300 to 562 kWh, depending on the version of the electric vehicle.
Buyers will be able to choose one of three battery capacity options – the lowest to 105 kWh will provide a 370 km power reserve, an average of 135 kWh – a power reserve of 480 km and a maximum of 180 kWh – a reserve of energy of 640 km (400 miles). An electric vehicle battery supports charging up to 160 kW at high-speed charging stations or with 11 kW power from a domestic power grid.
The power version with the minimum battery capacity is 300 kW (560 Nm), gaining the first 100 mph in 4.9 seconds. The average version received power of 562 kW (750 hp), the moment of 1120 Nm and the acceleration time for the first "hundred" in 3.0 seconds. The maximum version received power of 522 kW (time 1120 Nm) and acceleration time of 3.2 seconds.
Length of pickup 5475 mm (wheelbase 3450 mm), width 1710 mm and height 1815 mm weighs about 3470 kg. It can carry a load of 800 kg and tow a trailer weighing up to 5000 kg. Behind the cabin is a special 350-liter locking compartment for long loads, including snowboards, golf clubs and other sports equipment (and not much). The compartment edges can be used as a step for more convenient trunk loading or access to the roof. In the luggage compartments installed in the trunk open, and the space under the hood is used as another trunk.
The Electric Rivian R1T is equipped with a full range of sensors including high-precision GPS, cameras, radar, handle and ultrasonic sensors required for 3-level autonomous motion. The software part of the system can be up-to-date (over-the-air). The driver's cabin has three 15.6-inch, 12.3-inch, and 6.8-inch touch screens that are used to control the electric car.
The cost of the electric Rivian R1T ranges from $ 69,000 to the low of $ 100,000 for the maximum version, sales start at the end of 2020.
