French PSA group wants to negotiate with representatives of 15-20 in Russia – DECLARATIONS

The PSA group (owner of the Peugeot, Citroën, DS and Opel brands) offers partners "the status of official resellers to sell new Opel cars on PSA group platforms and provide a wide range of services including after- sale, "a French company said.

Among the requirements for the candidates – experience in the automotive sector, a stable financial position and a desire to promote the Opel brand. The priority cities are Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Ufa (total of 17 cities). Resellers who wish to cooperate can send their request to PSA with the company's presentation and the description of the proposed location of the concessionaire.

Dealers will have to sell the Opel Grandland X crossover, the Opel Zafira Life minibus and the Opel Vivaro Transporter. A separate utility is required for this, a PSA representative clarified that the range of the model could be expanded soon. Grandland X will be imported from Germany and Zafira Life and Vivaro Transporter will be produced at the PSMA Rus plant in Kaluga. Prices and settings are not disclosed. No information and sales plans.

In the first stage, the brand will have 15 to 20 dealers in Russia in the medium term, the number will double, the company said in a statement released on March 14. Four years ago, Opel had 137 dealers in Russia, the brand belonged to North American General Motors, which in 2015 announced the cessation of sales and production of consumer cars in Russia (except Chevrolet Niva, produced by GM-AvtoVAZ) the difficult economic situation and the weakening of the ruble. Most of the models manufactured in Russia at the GM plant in St. Petersburg and Avtotor in Kaliningrad had a low level of location.

PSA announced the return of the German brand to Russia in early 2019, car sales are expected to start in the fourth quarter. The return of Opel should occur as part of the overall PSA Push to Pass strategy for 2019-2021. One of his tasks is to increase sales by 50% outside Western Europe by 2021. The automaker also returns Peugeot to North America and starts selling Citroen in India. According to Opel / Vauxhall CEO Michael Locheller, "Russia is a large and attractive market with great potential, in which the German brand has gained an excellent reputation."

By 2018, more than 1 million Opel cars were sold worldwide, according to a PSA report. In Russia, 2013 was the best year for Opel, when 81,421 cars were sold and the brand occupied 2.9% of the market. In 2018, sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia increased nearly 13% to 1.8 million units, total sales of Peugeot and Citroen fell by almost 1% to 9224 units. (0.5% of the market), according to AEB. PSA expects the Russian market to grow 5% by 2019, according to the company's 2018 report.

The dealers interviewed by Vedomosti, who have experience in the sale of Opel, Peugeot and Citroen, have not received personal offers from PSA. According to Vladimir Popov, CEO of Favorit Motors, cooperation is possible if Opel's marketing position is relevant to the Russian market and prices do not exceed Peugeot's counterpart prices. The models themselves may be in demand in Russia, says Alexey Leshchenko, chairman of the Modus Group of Companies, but it is not economically feasible to build a separate reseller center for all three models at the moment. Consider the possibility of a concessionaire with interest, when there will be some kind of specificity, says Denis Petrunin, general director of Avtospetscenter.
