Upcoming BMW iX3, i4 and iNexT electric cars during the cold test in the polar circle



The BMW carmaker is gearing up to launch the next generation of purely electric models. At the BMW Group's winter testing center in Arjeplog, Sweden, three new electric cars are going through a central phase of their series development process. Together with the BMW iX3, which will be available next year, the BMW i4 and BMW iNeXT, which will be launched in 2021, will also undergo an intensive testing program.

As part of the overall vehicle test, its drive and suspension components are tested under extreme weather and road conditions. The test areas at the edge of the Arctic Circle provide ideal conditions for this. BMW eDrive technology's high-voltage electric motors, high-voltage batteries and power electronics, as well as chassis control systems, demonstrate its performance and reliability on frozen ice, snow and cold freezing ice surfaces.

The latest chapter in the BMW Group's electrification strategy will be inaugurated by a sports utility vehicle. In the BMW iX3, the fifth generation of BMW eDrive technology will be used for the first time from next year. A powerful electric motor and a high voltage accumulator with new battery cell technology allow pure electric driving pleasure in a new dimension. With a range of more than 400 kilometers and the ability to use DC charging stations with 150 kW capacity to charge their energy storage, the first fully electric SAV offers good daily and long distance capacity. The BMW iX3 will be the first model manufactured by the BMW Brilliance Automotive joint venture in Shenyang, China, for the global market.

The joy of driving with emissions-exempt driving locally on the BMW i4 stands out in a particularly sporty design, BMW said in a statement. The four-door coupe for the mid-range premium segment combines its dynamic design with sporty performance and high displacement capability. Fifth generation BMW eDrive technology allows for more than 600 kilometers of autonomy on the BMW i4. In addition, the spontaneous power of the electric motor can be used above all for a dynamic driving experience. For the outbreak of a stop at 100 km / h, the BMW i4 requires only 4 seconds, its maximum speed is over 200 km / h. The BMW i4 will be produced from the year 2021 at the BMW factory in Munich.

With the proportions and dimensions of a luxury sports car, a fifth-generation electric drive and highly automated steering systems, the BMW iNEXT embodies the future of driving pleasure in a comprehensive way. As the future modular system of the BMW Group, it combines the latest innovations in the fields of action defined in the NUMBER ONE> NEXT Design, automated driving, connectivity, electrification and services (D + ACES) corporate strategy. Its BMW eDrive transmission offers an autonomy of more than 600 kilometers. In addition, it is equipped with the latest networking technology and designed for automated driving in Level 3. The flagship of the new technology of the BMW Group will be produced from 2021 at the BMW plant in Dingolfing, Lower Bavaria.
