Magnesium supplements may lower blood pressure

The renowned expert in hypertension Prof. Dr. med. Klaus Kisters, chief medical officer at St. Anna's Hospital at St. Anna's Hospital in Herne, made explicit reference to the importance of magnesium supply for blood pressure in a series of lectures by the Society for Biofactors.

As a specialist in applied pharmacology and clinical pharmacotherapy of the Scientific Advisory Board of Society for Biofactors, Prof. Dr. med. Joachim Schmidt, a pharmacology expert from Dresden, added that magnesium deficiency also favors cardiovascular risk factors such as "harmful vascular inflammation, diabetes and cardiac arrhythmias."

Thus, numerous "epidemiological studies have convincingly demonstrated that magnesium deficiency leads to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease," said the specialist in pharmacology on behalf of the Society for Biofactors. A simple diet change is usually not enough to remedy a lack of magnesium supply, Schmidt continued.

The skilled person recommends preparations made of special magnesium compounds, whereby the so-called magnesium orotate is of "clinically relevant peculiarity", since the contained orotic acid also has cardioprotective properties. This "vitamin-like substance," according to the Society for Biofactors, promotes heart health. "Clinical studies show that this combination improves the resilience and performance of the vulnerable and pre-damaged heart, stabilizes the heart rate and also lowers blood pressure levels," said Prof. Schmidt.

Magnesium deficiency can be recognized by symptoms such as muscle tremors, muscle spasms, calf cramps, tension, cramps, headaches, heart stumbles, chest tightness, brittle nails, tooth decay and sleep disorders.
