Exactly a year ago, Félix Auger-Aliassime was the world number 172 and fought at the age of 17 on the ATP Challenger Tour. This Friday, the Canadian defeated the seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Queen's Club and became the youngest semi-finalist in 20 years.
If he has the chance to play against Nadal, Djokovic or Federer, he will beat her.
With that, Auger-Aliassime continued an impressive week in which he had eliminated Grigor Dimitrov (ATP 45) and Nick Kyrgios (ATP 39). "I think I found my pace this year," he explained. "Years of hard work are paying off."
Beat the best
In the semifinal on Saturday he now arrives at the generation duel with Feliciano Lopez. A win against the 37-year-old Spaniard would not only bring Auger-Aliassime to his fourth ATP Tour this year, but would also make his first foray into the top 20.
And from there, the young man seems to have no limits. Or, as Tsitsipas put it, "If he has the chance to play Nadal, Djokovic or Federer, he will beat them."
