Now the 30-year dispute in clay mining – Sweden is resolved

nature Today, the dispute over kaolin clay, which can be used in the manufacture of paper and porcelain, is resolved. A verdict from the Land and Environment Tribunal will decide whether Svenska kaolin can break kaolin clay in Billinge in the municipality of Eslöv, reports Sweden's Ekot Radio.

The government authorized the company as early as 1998, but Swedish kaolin has repeatedly been refused its application for environmental license. Both the Environmental Court and the Environmental Court of Appeal said no, and residents who consider that an open hole would greatly affect nature protested. The area is close to the Jällabjär nature reserve and Natura 2000 area.

Interest in kaolin deposits in sales has been going on since it was discovered in the 1980s. Already in the previous decade, the search for clay began, as Sweden is dependent on imports.

The discovery at the Skåne resort, east of Landskrona, is considered to be optimal.
