A stinging defeat – and his greatest loss as a co-pilot. The Spaniard 3-0 in the European Championship qualifier was difficult for Janne Andersson in his 40th international game.
– I think we lost a lot. We have nothing with us, he says.
Janne Andersson thought that Sweden lost a lot.
Some 2-0 defeats, worse than that, have never been since he took over the national team after Erik Hamrén in the summer of 2016.
This time the result was just below.
Spain were superior on all fronts and if it were not for the rescue of Robin Olsen, especially in the first half, the numbers could have been significantly higher in Santiago Bernabéu.
Still, Andersson felt that his team was adhering to the tactical guidelines and the players did their best.
– Tactically, we are leading the match that we must make against a team of the Spanish class. It's good, plus a period after a quarter, when Robin makes a good ransom, as it is not as it should. Otherwise, let's close and they will not.
– 0-0 paused and it looked like we could get rid of them. What I was not really happy about was the duel, where we should be able to measure ourselves better and beat a little too much, "says Janne Andersson.
Viktor Claesson's knee injury in the middle of the first half was unfortunate, both for him and for the team.
– When he gets hurt, he is by far the best when he goes through an opponent. Of course we lost a small dimension with Viktor. An initial change in such a game is never good … the opening prey ruins some, but Jakob Johansson comes in and makes a solid start.
The two convicted offenders – in the 63rd and 85th minutes – had no great objections.
"They needed two penalties to bring us down. I think 3-0 is too much. They are better than us for over 90 minutes, there is nothing to hear, but a little more we could have brought with us. We need some shores with us and we did not have that today. If we could manage a little, I think we could have dealt with them.
