Region Skåne writes in a press release that the infection tracking started according to the routines.
This means, among other things, that the health system tries to map how the infected person was affected.
– Infection screening is done by trying to map where the person is infected and who may have been exposed to or exposed to the infection, says Birgitta Holmgren, assistant infectious disease physician at the Swedish Shield Protection Center.
Uncommon with higher spread
Although single people suffer from measles and carry the infection to Sweden, it is unusual for the disease to spread.
According to statistics from Region Skåne, three people were affected by the infection last year.
Measles is very unusual, it does not usually circulate in Sweden. Usually, people have been stricken abroad and come home and in some cases may spread to some people. But the chance of expansion in Sweden is low, says Birgitta Holmgren.
The low risk of spread is mainly due to the fact that we have strong vaccine protection in Sweden, says Birgitta Holmgren.
– The best thing if you think you have been affected is to contact 1177 or a health center. So you can get advice and an evaluation is done of the symptoms and where to look for care, she says.
Measles begins with fever, runny nose, eye irritation, and dry cough. After a few days, a speckled rash that starts on the face spreads to the rest of the body. You often feel very ill.
Most people in Sweden are immune to measles. Anyone who is immune can not get sick or spread the infection further. Anyone who has measles or who is vaccinated with two doses has lifetime protection. Two-dose measles vaccination has been included in the childhood vaccination program since 1982. The first dose is administered at 18 months of age.
People born in the 1960s and 1970s have varied immunity. Some may have escaped the disease or received only one dose of the vaccine. A person born in 1981 or later received two doses in most cases. People born before 1960 probably had the disease and are immune.
