PC Review | MWC 2019: Smartphones with flexible screens did not touch visitors

The theme of smartphones compatible with a flexible screen took a few days before the opening of the MWC, when Samsung launched its first Galaxy Fold compact smartphone, which in its compound state works with a small screen of 4.6 inches. When the device is in tablet mode, the display has a diagonal screen of 7.3 inches.

This view lets you view information such as a large map or up to three active multitasking applications running at the same time. The single application window is attached to full height and 2/3 of the width to one border. In the remaining area, approximately the width of the two widgets is in two smaller applications in one window. The design of the hinge with the cogs engaging with each other is solved so that the hinge on which the combined apparatus is opened is virtually invisible and the device can be closed to a completely flat and compact shape, which will confirm the fit. In a collapsed state, a relatively small display will perform the basic tasks in which we use the smartphone after selecting from the pocket. In case an application or application in the application needs more space, simply open the device and the application has a diagonal screen of 7.3 inches. The device has 6 cameras together. Three folds back and one in front, and two more lenses are revealed after opening. The price on the US market will be firmly pushing the $ 2,000 limit. Many visitors were happy to be able to "try handmade" at Samsung's booth to feel the touch of the smartphone. Perhaps this is the most significant experience of getting to know the first touch screen. Unfortunately, they did not. Although the Galaxy Fold was exposed, not even in a transparent glass box, where they could explore and photograph all the space layouts and construction details, but in a special case made of thick glass and mirrors that was surrounded on all sides by a barrier, less than a meter, the hot news could not be addressed

The script was repeated Sunday afternoon at the Huawei press conference, where the Huawei Mate X smartphone was released.

After a press conference, several devices were exposed, this time in specially designed triangular plexiglas boxes with translucent walls, making it easier for photographers than Samsung. There's another dot in the box. Each of them had a cut corner to create a space through which a mirror could be slid. Prior to this gap, however, there was a hostess behind each box, so it was possible to film only through the inclined acrylic walls. I think Huawei also counted on an alternative that Samsung will show more details to the event visitors, and it would be obvious that the devices were visible in boxes through the gaps. But they would show more when they did not need it.

Richard Yu, head of Huawei's Consumer Division, answered strategy questions when he introduced the Huawei Mate X foldable smartphone, but he will not be able to exploit it yet. He explained that the flexing mechanism is very complicated and does not want to see more competition for as long as it takes. The preachers also came with the question of the price that is in the case of Mate X 2299 euros. Richard Yu explained that many new technologies are integrated into this device, which also has a logical impact on price. He said the engineers are, of course, trying to cut costs as much as they can. Mate X has only one monitor covering the outside of the device. In the folded state, you can use the front and back screen. The front of the screen is 6.6 inches thick and 2480 × 1148 pixels in a collapsed state. In the back, narrower (portrait) is a surface of 6.4 inches with a resolution of 2480 × 892 px. After opening, the device switches to tablet mode, where the screen has a diagonal of 8 inches and a screen resolution of 2480 × 2200 pixels. The construction of the master in which the flexing of Mate X is very complex and there are more than 100 components. The heart of the device is the SoC Kirin 980, which has 8 GB of RAM. The storage capacity is 512 GB The device has two batteries with a total capacity of 4500 mAh. It charges up to 85% of the supplied 55 W charger for half an hour.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold and the Huawei Mate X are the first devices of this type of renowned manufacturers. It is hard to say whether this concept will soon be taken up and expanded at least in the mainstream. The situation will become clearer when the initial enthusiasm disappears and all those who can afford to satisfy their "compulsory" desire. The smartphone has a big screen and some features of the tablet after opening, but found that tablets, by contrast, did not reach much the consumer segment. But both Samsung and Huawei produce tablets, so their marketing experts certainly took that into account.
