WASHINGTON. At age 51, American director, producer and screenwriter John Singleton died on Monday. AFP reported.
Singleton suffered a stroke on April 17 after returning to the United States from Costa Rica.
Since then, he has been admitted to an intensive care unit (JIS) where, according to his agent, he died on Monday.
Singleton's 1991 debut Boyz N The Hood was nominated for an Oscar.
Singleton was 24 and became the youngest filmmaker nominated for this prestigious film award in the Best Director category.
He later directed The Journey to Love (1993), Rough Shaft (2000) and Fast and Furious 2 (2003). As a producer, he was behind Hustle & Flow, Black Snake Moan and Illegal Tender.
