Police clarify that Choi Jong Hoon's drunken driving case was not intentionally overturned

On April 18, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Intellectual Crime Division said they found no evidence that Choi Jong Hoon's drunken driving incident from 2016 was intentionally prevented from being covered by the press.

Choi Jong Hoon previously admitted to offering a bribe to a police officer, telling him, "I'll give you 2 million won (about $ 1,762), so leave this slide" when he got caught driving drunk. However, the new police update indicates that the drunk driving incident was not deliberately covered up and that the police officer presumably did not accept the bribery.

Police discovered that the police station in charge of the case (Seoul Yongsan Police Station) had informed the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency that Choi Jong Hoon was a celebrity and was caught drunk. This was found through records and research records on a cell phone belonging to the officer in charge of the case at the time.

In addition, police investigated the bank account records of the chat room participants with Choi Jong Hoon, as well as those of all police officers of the Yongsan Police Station, and found no evidence of corrupt connections with senior superintendent Yoon Yoo Holdings CEO Yoo In Suk, or other police officers in charge of investigations.

Choi Jong Hoon will be referred to the prosecution on April 19 on charges of showing intent to bribe a police officer. He was previously hired by these charges last month.
