It has become a familiar story of almost every major awards event in recent months, with God Of War choosing not only the Game of the Year but several other great prizes.

The British Academy Games Awards 2019 is one of the last major awards of the season and at the gala event on Thursday night Dara Ó Briain was present to announce five God Of War victories and none for arch-rival Red Dead. Redemption II.

God Of War won not only the Best Game but also awards for Narrative, Audio, Music and Performer Achievement – for Jeremy Davies as The Stranger.

One of the other big winners of the night was the detective game Return Of The Obra Dinn, which won for Game Design and Artistic Achievement.

Although not really a video game, Nintendo Labo also won the Game Innovation and Family awards.

Into The Breach won a deserved prize for Original Property, while the excellent Yoku's Island Express won a BAFTA for the Debut Game.

Forza Horizon 4 won as Best British Game, while the flawed but interesting cooperative game A Way Out won the multiplayer award.

Meanwhile, Fortnite won the Evolving Game – the new BAFTA award for ongoing titles and games as a service.

Finally, Florence won the best Mobile Game, the mobile-driven title My Child Lebensborn won the Game Beyond Entertainment award, and Old School Runescape won the Mobile Game of the Year award – the only one voted for by the public.

It's a generally well-deserved set of winners, who agree with our Top 20 of 2018 and cement God Of War as one of the most critically acclaimed video games of the generation.
