Detectives investigating the death of Emiliano Sala of Cardiff arrested an individual suspected of manslaughter for wrongdoing, the Dorset Police Department said on Wednesday.
"We conducted extensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Sala's death and continued to work with partner agencies including the Civil Aviation Authority," Detective Simon Huxter said in a statement.
"As part of this investigation, we have to consider whether there is any evidence of any suspicion of criminality and, as a result of our investigations, we have today, Wednesday, June 19, 2019, a 64-year-old suspicious man in North Yorkshire. "He is helping with our investigations and has been released from custody under investigation."
Huxter added, "As is standard practice, we will not disclose any further information as to the identity of the individual who was arrested unless that person is charged with appearing in court."
The statement said police will not provide further details on the identity of the man at this stage.
Dorset police are investigating the circumstances of Sala's death and said they have provided updates to the Argentine family as well as to the family of the pilot of the aircraft, David Ibbotson.
A plane carrying Sala and Ibbotson disappeared from the radar over the Channel Channel on Jan. 21 after the player finalized an agreement to join the Premier League club. The plane was traveling from Nantes, France, to Cardiff, Wales.
Sala's body was identified in the wreckage of the plane on February 7.
