Obese children at risk for diabetes

In Serbia, almost the fifth child is overweight, eight percent is obese and the number of obese children diagnosed with diabetes increases from year to year. The correct choice of foods, fruit and vegetable consumption and regular physical activity are the main factors in the prevention of obesity and its consequences, such as diabetes, the conclusion of participants in the "Healthy Adult Preventive Panel" held in Belgrade to mark the World Day Against Diabetes.

Prof. Dr. Vesna Dimitrijević Srećković, an endocrinologist at the Clinical Center in Serbia, emphasized the obesity of the stomach, which is the main characteristic of metabolic and metabolic syndrome, which increases the risk of diabetes and other diseases. Her research confirmed the presence of metabolic syndrome in 37% of obese children and young people, while the remaining 63% had a supermetabolic syndrome, or only an increase in waist volume and another risk factor, mostly low cholesterol HDL.

Anyone else does not know that he has diabetes

World Diabetes Day is celebrated today in the world under the slogan "Diabetes Affects the Family". Currently, more than 425 million people are living with this disease, and most people with type 2 diabetes are diagnosed, anyone with this diagnosis does not know they are sick. According to the Public Health Institute "Dr. Milan Jovanovic Batut" In Serbia, diabetes is the fifth leading cause of death and the fifth leading cause of disease, and an estimated 710,000 adult people in Serbia are suffering from this monstrosity. Almost one third of patients at the time of diagnosis of diabetes already have one or more late complications of this disease.
It should be noted that this disease in 2017 was the cause of health care costs of at least $ 727 billion, which is more than the combined US and Chinese military budget. Every adult, or 425 million people, has diabetes, and the number of people with diabetes is expected to reach 522 million by 2030. This disease was the cause of four million deaths two years ago.

The incidence of metabolic syndrome increased statistically significantly with age: in obese children aged 7 to 15 years it was 34.8%, adolescents aged 16 to 20 years were 38.9%, young people between 20 and 30 years were 58, 1%, while the adult code registered 38 percent.

– Abdominal obesity is responsible for the depression of adolescents and young people, since adipose tissue cytokines affect the degradation of tryptophan, which is responsible for the development of the happiness hormone and, on the contrary, produce products that lead to numerous disorders and depression. Timely reaction and prevention are extremely important. These are healthy Mediterranean nutrition and physical activity that involves at least an hour of brisk walking. When we lose weight, we reduce stomach obesity, and we have beneficial effects on regulating fat, blood pressure and sugar levels, and thus prevent or correct existing pre-metabolic or metabolic syndrome – said Dr. Dimitrijević Srećković, who 10-year menus designed for a healthy family in order to prevent obesity, diabetes, high fats, blood pressure and vascular complications.

The fact that children in the 21st century are less likely to move than a few decades ago, according to prof. Dr. Vladimir Koprivica must encourage all actors in society to begin and take important steps to increase physical activity from an early age. It is also important to make individual approaches to physical activity design.

– Movement is natural for humans and is of great importance at all times of life. Through numerous family activities, schools, training schools and sports organizations, the Society should allow young people to perform a professionally trained exercise – explained Professor Koprivica.

Bojana Marković of the Diabetes Association "Blue Circle" stressed that support is important, but also that this disease, as children and parents live with it, but also the ways of prevention, is constantly being said.

– With support, they are easier to accept and overcome the daily obligations that diabetes brings with it. Our association has ongoing support through appropriate patient education, expert lectures, working with experienced psychologists and through the exchange of experience with the patient, which means a lot – added Markovic.

When diagnosing a child with diabetes, treatment is a complex process, from insulin therapy, use of proper nutrition, physical activity and psychological support. However, Dr. Veroslava Stanković, from the Belgrade High School of Health Studies, prioritizes prevention.

– Statistics show that a large number of children in Serbia are obese. It is therefore necessary to learn from the earliest childhood the correct nutrition and importance of certain food groups, as well as the harmfulness of fast food and candy. Children should be taught that breakfast is a mandatory meal, that other meals should not be ignored and it is mandatory to take a fruit from a meal. The right choice of food, fitness and physical activity are the main factors in preventing obesity and its consequences – added Dr. Stanković.

On this occasion, it was emphasized that the "Maxi School Caravan" project, which is visited by 100 schools in Serbia and which includes 15,000 champions, showed that, as Milica Popovic explained, how much children can explain in the game through gambling because it is important Eat vegetables and be healthy.
