The 66-year-old patient died of complications caused by the influenza A virus, the sixth death in Montenegro, the Montenegrin Institute of Public Health announced.
The patient was not vaccinated against influenza and had a chronic illness.
From January 28 to February 3, 822 people with symptoms of influenza were recorded, that is, 132 patients per 100,000 inhabitants. The epidemic threshold in Montenegro is 100 patients per 100,000 population.
The institute says that the number of patients with flu-like symptoms is four times higher than in the same period last year.
The flu epidemic is expected to peak in the coming weeks, the statement said.
Since the start of the season, 237 cases of influenza have been tested in the laboratory, of which 236 were positive for type A virus.
