Famous American TV presenter Oprah Winfrey is in mourning. His mother, Vernita Lee, 83, died on Thursday, November 22, on Thanksgiving at the family home in Wisconsin, USA.
The family confirmed the death and Oprah's niece, Alisha Hayes, gave a little more detail on social media.
In 1954, Vernita Lee and Vernon Winfrey gave birth to Oprah Winfrey. As she moved to Milwaukee to work as a cleaner, Oprah Winfrey lived his first years with his grandmother. Her mother, who was only 19, could not take care of her.
At age six, she became one of the world's top cheerleaders and returned to live with Vernita Lee, her mother in Milwaukee.
Oprah explained that her relationship with her mother was difficult because of the long separation. But their relationship has finally improved. The billionaire had his mother on the set of his TV show in 1990.
Vernita is survived by Oprah and her sister Patricia Amanda Faye Lee and their grandchildren Alisha Hayes, Chrishaunda Lee Perez, Aquarius Lofton and André Brown, and great-grandchildren Jaxon Praise Perez, Chai Teresa Perez, Donovan Hayes and Trindade Hayes.
A private funeral service has already taken place.
