Researchers have developed a shoe that can help speed the healing process of people with ulcers caused by diabetes.

Sugar sores usually produce high blood sugar and nerve damage that removes the sensation in the feet or toes.

The researchers used the laser to form silicone-based rubber in the insoles and then created oxygen-only reservoirs in the foot part of the ulcer.

"An insole can carry oxygen for at least eight hours a day under the pressure of a person weighing between 53 and 81 kg and can also be adapted to any weight," said Hongji Jiang, a researcher at Purdue University in the United States.

"Oxygen dosages are one way to treat these wounds, so we set up a system that releases oxygen gradually throughout the day so the patient can move more," said Dr. Babak Ziay, a professor at Purdue University.
