Suzuki fans will be nostalgic for the Grand Vitara, which has almost become the ultimate mid-priced crossover that remains true to this four-wheel drive. I felt sad about this and we, when the upgraded model year Vitara 2019, suddenly began to slip into a seemingly innocent gorge.

Of course, blame the road tires, who do not like those viscous and slippery soils. Vitara is compact, which provides a good geometric crossing with a clearance of 185 millimeters. And its suspension has a good reserve of indifference, so even along a bumpy road, Vitara walks energetically, is not rude and does not balance. In general, for the garden and the settings of the fishing venture are quite adequate. On the crossover of the SX4 platform, by the way, the suspension seems to be more relaxed, and the Vitara in this scenario is a bit difficult, which is also suggested by its lean design.

By the way, the former Grand Vitara, although it had an honest four-wheel drive, even with the central differential lock, was not equipped with ESP in some versions, which made diagonal suspension sensitive – the electronics that appeared later solved this problem.

In modern Vitara, the stabilization system is already in the database, which guarantees against excesses, such as the same diagonal hanging. However, in our case, Vitara skidded willingly, and the ESP intervention was instead felt in slippery corners where the electronics were struggling desperately with understeering.

Overall, the modern Grand Vitara has no relation to it: now the model is built based on the SX4 crossover except that it is smaller than it.

It's really compact: it has a narrow saloon and a modest trunk, and if the rear seats do not look too tight, thanks to the vertical landing. Compared to Grand Vitara, the current model is smaller than a size class.

Unlike many remaining crossovers, Vitara kept the car's image bold and bold. There was a liveliness in his character: if necessary, you can drive very aggressively on dirt roads – neither the suspension nor the steering adjustment prevents this. But with excessive enthusiasm for the driver, she is mounting a "plow", that is, she slides the front wheels, so you should not put yourself in a super task.

The Top Vitara is equipped with a 1.4 liter turbocharged engine with a capacity of 140 liters. s., which makes its acceleration not so fast, but even. Accelerations are reliable and in semaphore races, and on passing, though the pace itself seems quite average – 10 seconds for "hundreds."

After restyling, Suzuki decided to replace the base engine with a 111-liter turbo. but for Russia they left a family vacuum cleaner of 1.6 liters (117 hp). Not bad for basic versions with a manual gearbox, but Vitara with a machine gun, four-wheel drive and an aspirate goes slowly: the city is still here and there, but when overtaking you want more. Therefore, a 140-horsepower turbocharged engine is not so much a luxury as a necessity for the top Vitara, who plans to use it regularly for long trips.

However, unlike the SX4, Vitara is more focused on megacities, and its philosophy is this: let's say a person wants an urban car but does not want to look like a person who wants a city car. That is, he wants a car, emitting his latent desire for freedom and various deeds. Vitara, the heiress of agile and capable SUVs with the same name, successfully explores these passions, and really wants to get somewhere. Although objectively, she will climb more times at the curb than in the desert.

And restyling – of the same opera. In the radiator grille, the horizontal flaps were replaced by the vertical ones, giving a distant similarity with the Jeep and its laia. Along the way, they added chrome eyelashes on the protivotumanok, changed the design of the taillights, softened the plastic, added a screen to the dashboard … Not much?

The main new dress of "Vitara" was a turbocharged liter, which never reached us, and therefore in Russia, restyling mainly affected the appearance and price. Basic Vitara has risen in price by 60 thousand rubles and now costs from 1,179 million. The package is immediately solid, for example there is ESP, a full set of airbags (including a knee), air conditioning, heated seats and an audio system. But the unit is in front and the box is manual.

By comparison, the main competitor of Hyundai Crete in the version for 1,135 million rubles is better equipped: there are temperature control, fog lights, alloy wheels, which appear in the Vitara in more expensive versions. A heated steering wheel "Kretovsky" for Vitara is not available in principle.

In addition, prices are on the rise: the version with the "automatic" – of 1.279 million, with four-wheel drive – of 1.459 million. The test car with a turbocharged 140 horsepower engine and the richest set of equipment cost, terrible to say, 1,709 million. The list of equipment can include a rear view camera, navigation, LED lights, luxury wheels, but such a price for a Class B car requires both usage and humility.

Who will buy Vitara on a live Crete? And that's not counting the Renault Duster or Kaptur, if utility is needed, or the Nissan Juke, if you want extravagance.

When choosing the head, Vitara probably has no chances, which is confirmed by the market statistics. But unlike the same Crete Vitara, it is imported into Russia, although not from Japan, but from the Hungarian factory of Suzuki. And for someone a foreign assembly together with the Japanese genetics of the car is a reason to pay a little more.
