Drinking tea helps reduce risk of cardiovascular disease – Scientists – Technology


Scientists at the University of Western Australia have stated that drinking cups tea or a handful of berries every day helps reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular disease. According to Live Science, the researchers found that flavonoids – substances found in red fruits, tea, chocolate and wine – help preserve the health of the cardiovascular system.

The researchers analyzed data from 53,000 people who participated in the long-term study of the Danish Diet, Cancer and Health Study, launched in the 1990s. Prior to the start of the study, participants completed questionnaires indicating which foods they eat and how often. The researchers then monitored their health for 20 years.

For 23 years of research, 12,000 people had some kind of heart problem. Scientists found that those who consumed 500 milligrams or more of flavonoids per day were less likely to develop coronary heart disease, stroke, and peripheral arterial disease. At the same time, the use of more than 500 milligrams of flavonoids per day did not affect the positive result.

The right amount of flavonoids with anti-inflammatory properties is contained in a cup of tea, blueberries and other products. However, smoking and drinking alcohol increase the amount of flavonoids needed to achieve a beneficial effect.
