Security flaws affect users and cause their data to be exposed and can lead to greater losses. As a rule, everything stems from service failures, which are quickly fixed.
The latest security breach appears to have originated in Instagram and has caused users' passwords to have been exposed. The impact seems to have been reduced, but the fault is real.
Even though they are not frequent, security flaws that affect Internet services are dire. As a rule it leads to theft of user data, which is then used.
The most recent reported failure comes from Instagram, having been reported by this service. It was discovered internally and also resolved immediately. Instagram also revealed that it immediately contacted affected users.
According to what is described, the problem was in the data export tool, presented in April this year. The problem was only in the web version, which put the password in the address of the page, of course.
In addition to this way of having the passwords exposed, there was also a flaw that led to these being stored in clear on Facebook servers. Security experts have revealed that in this case passwords should also be stored in clear servers on Instagram.
Once the crash was discovered, the team of programmers hastened to try to solve it by changing the data export tool, making it safer. Also the data stored on Facebook servers was immediately deleted.
By contacting users, revealing the flaw, Instagram also asked them to change their password as a precaution. As for other users, and also as an additional security measure, they must change their password and enable 2-factor authentication.
