Last Saturday (30), a 33-year-old man diagnosed with meningitis died at Natan Portela Hospital of Tropical Diseases in Teresina. Ciro da Cruz Morais, 33, had meningitis and died of complications from the disease. Natural of the rural zone of Nazária, the patient was being treated by the public network of Teresina. The 4th Regional Health, which covers the municipality of Nazária, received about 130 doses of vaccine according to the Coordination of Immunization.
The Immunization Coordination of the State Health Department (Sesapi) ensures that there is stock of vaccines against meningitis in the state health network and reported that there is no outbreak of the disease. Immunization is done in the third and fifth month of life of the child and reinforced in the first year and at 11 to 14 years of age for boys and girls. There is no vaccination for adults except in cases of an outbreak.
