Japan's space agency announced today that the Hayabusa2 spacecraft has launched an explosive on an asteroid to create a crater on its surface and collect samples to find possible clues about the origin of the solar system.

Today's mission is the most risky for Hayabusa2, since it required, for example, that it be moved away immediately so as not to be struck by fragments of the explosion.

Japan's Aerospace Exploration Agency, or JAXA, reported that Hayabusa2, after the explosion, managed to distance itself from the asteroid safely and is intact.
