The second district commander of Relief Operations of Beja, Lucínia Aires, said that around 11:30 pm on Monday two fire fronts were dominated and one active.
According to Lucínia Aires, the fire, which is devastating an area of bush, pasture, eucalyptus and cork trees, was being fought by 289 operatives, supported by 93 vehicles and three track machines. In the place were corporations of the districts of Beja, Évora, Faro, Lisbon and Setúbal.
In the firefight there were still six air vehicles, five airplanes and one helicopter and two other machines of tracks, according to the same source.
The Beja District Command for Relief Operations (CDOS) indicated that the fire alert, which broke out in the Monte Vale Longo area, was given at 1:21 pm, with no injuries or houses at risk.
