About 750,000 young girls have been vaccinated against the HPV virus in Portugal in the last 10 years, which corresponds to 86% of the population eligible for the vaccine, making the country an "international example."

The data was released by the Directorate-General for Health at a ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV), which may cause cervical cancer.

The HPV vaccine, with the vaccine included in the National Vaccination Program, started in October 2008.
