It's been 28 years since Sonic the Hedgehog hit home-gaming consoles. In some ways, a feature film is long overdue. But if history has taught us anything, this may be the best. Take the semi-contemporary Sonic, Mario, who received the big-screen treatment two years after Sonic debuted on the Sega consoles.
It's hard not to see the echoes of that Hoskins / Leguizamo adaptive train in the first trailer of Sonic's next live action, and we're still here. It's another hairy fish out of water in a real-world setting. This time, it is decorated with a diffuse blue CGI and voiced by the very funny Ben "Jean-Ralphio" Schwartz, who also "consulted" about BB-8's beeps and bloops.
Fortunately, the film also gives Jim Carrey a relief from his career as a political painter, to assault as he did not steal well, decades, honestly as Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik.
Also James "Cyclops" Marsden, for some reason.
It's hard to say what the thought is here, until the inclusion of "Gangsta's Paradise" (released a few years after the first Sonic), but at least Coolio is getting some waste, I think. It's good to see a budget of $ 90 million well spent.
The film and all that implies arrive in November.
