CITY OF LEGAZPI – The Provincial Office for Disaster Risk Reduction and Catanduanes Management (PDRRMO) said 52 families or 262 people living in coastal and flood prone villages in the cities of Baras and Bato were evacuated under Tropical Storm Thursday if approaches the Bicol region.
Jerry Beo, head of PDRRMO – Catanduanes, said that 26 families or 130 people from Barangay (village) Sagrada in the city of Baras were evacuated.
Of the 26 families, 24 stayed in private homes, while two families were evacuated to the village hall.
In Bato, 26 families or 132 people from Barangay Cabugao and Carorian were taken to evacuation centers.
Catanduanes Governor Joseph Cua instructed local disaster councils in 11 cities in the province to impose preventive evacuation procedures on Sunday.
Most cities in the island province of Catanduanes are located in coastal areas prone to storms and floods.
