Belgian Paralympic ends life through euthanasia at 40



Belgian Paralympic champion Marieke Vervoort ended her life through euthanasia at age 40 on Tuesday (October 22), Belgian media reported. Euthanasia is legal in Belgium and the spiky haired athlete announced her intentions after the Rio 2016 Games to follow this path if her degenerative condition made her suffering worse. But she said at the time that the sport had given her a reason to continue living.
