MANILA, Philippines – Four police officers were arrested by the Philippines National Police – Integrity Monitoring and Monitoring Group (PNP-IMEG) after being seen drinking alcohol and gambling in public.
Police identified arrest officers as Sergeant Erwin Gobis, chief sergeant Demetrio Laroya and Corporal Ariel Pasion – all assigned to the PNP Health Service – and Sergeant Gerry Ocampo of the PNP Crime Laboratory on Thursday.
The PNP-IMEG reported that the operation was carried out inside a restaurant along 3rd Avenue at Barangay Bagong Lipunan in Cubao, Quezon City on Wednesday around 10pm.
Likewise, a non-uniformed PNP staff member, former police officer Fidel Agustin and Teddy Carpio, the owner of the restaurant that operated an online gambling (cockfight), were arrested during the operation.
Police officers found betting money, two television sets, a digital video recorder for a closed circuit television camera, a roll of betting chips, two digital boxes and 23 bottles of wine.
PNP-IMEG, charged with going after red-headed police officers, said the operation resulted from reports that several police officers are attending the restaurant to play and start drinking.
The arrested policemen and the evidence are in custody of PNP-IMEG. (Editor: Gilbert S. Gaviola)
