On Wednesday morning a new oil spill at the Norperuano Pipeline (ONP), operated by Petro-Peru in the region Loreto. The oil spill occurred on Tuesday, June 18 at kilometer 237, in the Nuevo Progreso community, Manseriche district, Datem del Marañón province, 35 kilometers from the Mayuriaga indigenous community.

Through a statement, Petro-Peru denounced that the spill was the consequence of a "criminal act" against the infrastructure.

On the other hand, the company explained that the oil leak was detected on Tuesday at 1:45 pm by Petro-Peru personnel who were patrolling the area. After that, according to the statement, they immediately activated their contingency plan, which was to close the valve and move personnel, tools and equipment to the area.

"Regrettably, authorities and residents of the indigenous community of Progreso did not allow the entry of personnel sent to containment, for which the immediate intervention of the National Police and the Public Prosecutor's Office was requested, since it is an attack against the infrastructure, structure of the Norperuano Pipeline (ONP), which is considered a critical national asset, "the company said in its statement.

Petro-Peru added that pumping crude oil through the North Branch Pipeline was at a scheduled shutdown from 3:40 pm on June 15. The oil company also explained that they are putting up barriers to contain the possible flow of hydrocarbons into the Saramiriza current.

Sources from the Environmental Assessment and Inspection Agency (OEFA) confirmed for The trade They are traveling to the area to check the area affected by the oil. This was also notified to the Energy and Mining Investment Surveillance Authority (Osinergmin), which is responsible for verifying the condition of the infrastructure.
