DRAMMEN (VG) After a little more than a month of temporary solution, Strømsgodset has hired Henrik Pedersen (41) as the club's new coach.

Strømsgodset announced the Danish name during a session on Thursday afternoon from Marienlyst. The former coach of Køge and Eintracht Braunschweig was long regarded as the most relevant candidate.

Now, Pedersen has signed a contract for the 2021 season with the blue shirts. He will lead the team already on Saturday in the game against the Molde in Marienlyst.

– I think Norway is a great and exciting football country. I'm happy to be here. I want to have an aggressive expression regarding the game of the press. Over time, I will also develop my own game with the ball. Flexibility and variety in the game will be the key in the future. Until then, we should have a basic game, Pedersen tells VG, before adding that he is inspired by both the way Liverpool and Manchester City play.

Heavy period

The Strømsgodset is led by Håkon Wibe-Lund since former coach Bjørn Petter Ingebretsen turned himself in on May 15 for health reasons. Under Wibe-Lund's direction, Strømsgodset took three of the 12 possible points in the elite series.

On Wednesday, the men of the drama emerged from the cup against the team of the 2nd division Fram Larvik.

– I would like to thank Håkon Wibe-Lund for accepting the challenge firmly and did a good job during this period, says CEO Dag Lindseth Andersen.

Now, sports manager Jostein Flo is happy to have employed Pedersen after a two-week dialogue with the Danish.

– We see great potential in Henrik. It fits into the profile description and has the qualities we look for in a head coach. Henrik is knowledgeable, ambitious and hungry, and with a clear and aggressive style of play. He is very clear about how he wants to and will immediately take over the field, Flo says.

Pedersen offensive

Pedersen has two days to prepare the boys of Strømsgodset, second in Eliteserien, for the battle against the Serbian leader Molde.

He will, among other things, use it to gain confidence in the field.

– I have a clear idea of how to play football. It is offensive and forward-looking. Now there are only two training sessions before the next game against Molde. We only have to do some things before this fight, but we can also do something mental. It was great meeting the players today. The first objective I have is for players to have the courage to show who they are, says Pedersen.

He says he has seen four to five games that Strømsgodset has played lately.

"I also saw all the goals we scored and we threw, and we did a really great analysis to be able to plan the training with the team. There will be some defensive things I want to address first. But defensive does not just mean defensive. It's something we must do to be offensive. We need to develop people and people's minds, "says Pedersen.
